Foundations of Character Thinking
In the first part of the course, you’ll get introduced to the mindset behind great character design and start building a strong creative foundation. You’ll begin by understanding the purpose of the course, learning about influences, and discovering how characters can be used as a form of storytelling. Through early lessons and warm-up exercises, you’ll loosen up your drawing approach and start thinking more freely and creatively. This stage is all about breaking hesitation, understanding inspiration, and setting the base for everything that comes next.
MODULE 3&4
Core Principles of Character Design
Here, you’ll dive into the essential building blocks of appealing character design. You’ll explore shape language, clear silhouettes, and strong visual storytelling to make your characters instantly readable and engaging. You’ll also start learning how expressions, proportions, and emotional cues affect how a character feels. Through demos and exercises, you’ll begin applying these principles directly, learning how to turn simple ideas into clear, expressive character concepts.
MODULE 5&6
Personality, Expression & Style Development
In this stage, the focus shifts toward personality and refinement. You’ll learn how to push appeal through exaggeration, contrast, and distinct proportions, while also exploring how personality comes first in any strong design. You’ll develop more expressive faces and body language, and start making intentional design decisions that give your characters identity and charm. This is also where you begin combining structure with creativity, refining your style and artistic voice.
MODULE 7
Final Projects & Artistic Confidence
In the final module, everything comes together through practical application. You’ll work on full character designs and scene-based exercises, applying all the principles learned throughout the course. This includes simplifying environments, strengthening focal points, and refining your compositions. You’ll also complete a character design checklist, bonus materials, and receive final guidance to help you continue growing beyond the course. By this stage, you’ll have both completed work and a clear understanding of how to continue creating on your own with confidence.
